William Parker
William Parker is a well known and influential musician in New York City’s experimental jazz scene. He regularly appears at music festivals around the world, including the Guelph Jazz Festival, in Canada.
William Parker was born in New York City. He was never trained classically, buy studied with Richard Davis, Jimmy Garrison, and Wilbur Ware. He is one of the few jazz bass players who often plays arco. Additionally, he plays ecletic musical instruments from around the world.
Mr. Parker gained notoriety as pianist, Cecil Taylor’s bass player. He has been a member of saxophonist, David S. Ware’s quartet and in Peter Brötzmann’s various groups.
He is a member of the cooperative, and Other Dimensions In Music. William and his wife, Patricia Nicholson Parker, organizes the annual Vision Festival in New York City.
Mr. Parker is currently performing with his AquaSonic Waterphone Ensemble, which features a collection of musicians playing the AquaSonic waterphone musical instrument.
